Plymouth Rock Studios Chooses Waverly Oaks Golf Club
PLYMOUTH, Mass., July 3 /PRNewswire/ — Plymouth Rock Studios announced
today that Waverly Oaks Golf Club in Plymouth will be the location of the
world’s first earth-friendly, state-of-the-art, multi-faceted film and TV
production studio, featuring 14 sound stages, back lots, a multi-purpose
theatre, hotel, office buildings and an educational component.
The 240 acre Waverly Oaks Golf Club is located on Long Pond Road in
Plymouth. The course includes 27 holes and is bordered to the east by Route
3 to the south by the Plymouth South High School campus, Cross Winds Golf
Club to the north and Long Pond Road to the west.
“We are extremely happy that we were able to identify such a high
quality site,” said Plymouth Rock Studios Managing Officer David
Kirkpatrick. “We would like to thank of the elected officials in Plymouth
and their staffs for their hard work in helping us identify a new site for
the studio campus.”
The company decided to move to a new site in May when it became clear
that the original site for the project on Bourne Road had significant title
problems.
“In every way the Waverly Oaks property is a magnificent location for
the studio,” said Plymouth Rock Studios Managing Partner Bill Wynne. “The
site will provide extensive buffering and will allow us to create a
beautiful campus setting. Locating on this site may also provide us with an
opportunity to help the town with existing infrastructure issues at the
South Plymouth High School campus.”
Plymouth Board of Selectmen Chairman Dick Quintal expressed the town’s
pleasure at the news that the studio will remain in Plymouth. “This is a
bright day for Plymouth,” said Chairman Quintal. “This has been an ongoing
process and we will keep our sleeves rolled up and continue to work with
Plymouth Rock Studios. There is a lot of work that needs to be done, I am
confident that we can make this successful for everyone.”
Planning Board Chairman Marc Garrett said, “We look forward to working
with Plymouth Rock Studios again to develop the proper zoning overlay
amendment to allow the studio to pursue its endeavors while protecting
Plymouth’s character and vital resources.”
